Dodgers News: Mattingly Says It Wasn’t Right Time For Joc Pederson

[new_royalslider id=”50″] Once Los Angeles Dodger’s left fielder Carl Crawford said he would be going on the disabled list last night due to a sprained ankle, many believed that top prospect Joc Pederson would finally be getting the call to the big leagues.

Today, it was announced that infielder/outfielder Jamie Romak was recalled from the Albuquerque Isotopes to replace Crawford on the roster. Pederson has been tearing it up in Triple-A and is one of the organization’s top prospects, yet he was once again skipped over.

According to Pedro Moura of the OC Register, manager Don Mattingly shared his thoughts on leaving Pederson in the minors:

With Crawford out, Matt Kemp will once again find himself in the starting lineup, but in a new position. Kemp will take over duties in left field for the majority of the time with Scott Van Slyke occasionally getting a start. The Dodgers would rather have Pederson playing every day and continue to develop rather than sit on the bench in the majors. Romak also adds versatility, being able to play first and third base in addition to the corner outfield positions.

Pederson is hitting .347 with 15 home runs and 32 RBIs in 50 games for the Isotopes this season. He spent some time with the big-league club in the spring and hit just .184, though he did have three home runs and six RBIs in 24 games. The young outfielder provides strong defense in center and speed on the bases. Barring another injury or a trade, Pederson will likely spend the rest of the season in the minors. He could be promoted in September if he is added to the 40-man roster.

  1. Mat tingly is retarded he should bench kemp and bring in Joc. Kemp has not done jack for the dodgers.

  2. Not time for Pederson? But somehow we’re supposed to believe it’s time for Romak, a 12-year, career .249 minor-leaguer??? SMH.

    1. I don’t get it. Why is not time for Pederson? He could do no worse than Kemp, Ethier, and Van Slyke. This just simply makes no sense. Is this shit about egos or what ? PUT THE TEAM FIRST MATTINGLY. Bottom line, the Dodgers don’t have much choice I don’t think. Bring the kid up and let him play. It’s about the team. The fans and media is tired of seeing the same un productive line up. Roll the dice! You did it with Puig last year and look how that turned out. Not saying Pederson is a Puig, but what do you have to lose?
