Dodgers News: Miguel Olivo’s Contract Selected, Billingsley To 60-Day DL
As the Dodgers wait to find out if the inclement weather will permit them to play on Wednesday, they again made another roster move. According to the team’s official Twitter account, the Dodgers selected Miguel Olivo’s contract and optioned Tim Federowicz to Triple-A:

Also via their Twitter account, the Dodgers announced Chad Billingsley was placed on the 60-day disabled list:

After signing a Minor League contract, Olivo was one of 15 players invited to Spring Training. Upon learning he wasn’t included on the travel roster for the Opening Series in Sydney, Australia, Olivo asked to be released, and stated he wouldn’t report to Minor League camp.
However, the 35-year-old catcher did report to Albuquerque and played in 15 games. In 64 at-bats, Olivo is hitting .390 with a 1.099 OPS and 18 RBIs. His production at the Triple-A level had left many wondering why Olivo wasn’t called up in the wake of A.J. Ellis’ knee surgery, as Drew Butera and Tim Federowicz have both struggled at the plate.
Olivo spent a portion of last season with the Miami Marlins, playing in 33 games before asking for his release after not playing for two weeks. In nine Spring Training with the Dodgers, Olivo hit .263 with three RBIs, leading all catchers in each category. A 12-year veteran, Olivo is a career .241 hitter.

Dodgers News: A.J. Ellis Out, Knee Surgery, Clayton Kershaw Improving
Sounds good. Federowicz is very good defensively, as good as Ellis, but his hitting is not good at all. Butera is the same way, may not be as good at throwing people out at second, however. Give Olivo a chance. He may be the answer to that weakness at the bottom of the lineup.
