Dodgers News: Paco Rodriguez Placed On Disabled List

[new_royalslider id=”30″] One day after placing Chris Perez on the disabled list with bone spurs in his right ankle, the Los Angeles Dodgers moved another reliever to the 15-day DL.

Paco Rodriguez is the latest to fall victim to injury — a teres major strain, which is the same injury Clayton Kershaw suffered earlier in the season. Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A on Saturday in response to losing Paul Maholm to an ACL injury.

Rodriguez pitched two shutout innings in the Dodgers’ 7-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday and didn’t appear in Monday’s loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Although they’ve come weeks apart, Rodriguez’s appearance was his fourth consecutive without allowing a run.

The Dodgers once again looked to the Minors and promoted Pedro Baez for the third time this season. The right-hander was with the Dodgers in May and July and amassed a 9.00 ERA in the two outings.

Baez has appeared in 23 games during split time with Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Albuquerque. Baez last appeared in a game for the Isotopes on Aug. 1 when he threw one inning of scoreless relief.

With Baez’s addition, the Dodgers have swapped experienced arms in the bullpen for two unproven players — Baez and Carlos Frias. Rodriguez has had trouble remaining with the big league roster due to being one of only two relievers who can be optioned without needing to clear waivers.

The other is Kenley Jansen, who understandably wouldn’t be demoted to the Triple-A. General manager Ned Colletti has indicated pitching is an area the Dodgers will look to address prior to the Aug. 31 waivers deadline.
