Dodgers News: Paco Rodriguez Recalled, Carlos Triunfel Optioned

[new_royalslider id=”30″] Along with an inconsistent offense, part of the reason the Los Angeles Dodgers have stumbled out of the gate to a 14-12 record is due to a struggling bullpen. Up until recently, Brandon League, Chris Perez and Chris Withrow were three of the few reliable relievers.

Paco Rodriguez could also be considered part of the dependable group, but he was only with the Dodgers through the first eight games of the season. Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque when Brian Wilson was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list. It was a surprising move as Rodriguez wasn’t exactly struggling and sending him to the minors resulted in J.P. Howell being the only lefty in the bullpen.

After appearing in three games with the Isotopes, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News Group reports Rodriguez was recalled:

While the Dodgers would have been able to carry 26 players on their active roster for the day-night doubleheader that scheduled for Thursday, Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com reports Carlos Triunfel was optioned back to Triple-A:

Triunfel was recalled from the minors on April 27, or one day after Hanley Ramirez left a game with a bruised thumb. The injury wasn’t believed to be serious, but with the Dodgers scheduled to play an Interleague series that would require a designated hitter, adding depth to the bench was a sensible decision.

With Rodriguez back in the bullpen he gives manager Don Mattingly another late-game option, which may provide Wilson with the opportunity to continue working through his issues in situations that aren’t quite as dependent on him being completely mistake-free.
