Dodgers News: Phillies Select Arano To Complete Hernandez Trade

[new_royalslider id=”77″] The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Roberto Hernandez via a waivers trade on Aug. 7, but the deal had yet to be completed. The Philadelphia Phillies took Jesmuel Valentin as one of the two players to be named later on Aug. 16.

On Thursday, the trade became complete as the Phillies selected Victor Arano, according to the Dodgers’ Twitter account:

The right-hander signed with the Dodgers in April 2013 and spent his first year with the Dodgers Arizona Rookie League, appearing in 13 games with eight starts. Arano was promoted to Low-A Great Lakes this season and started 15 of the 22 games he appeared in.

Arano posted a 4-7 record and 4.08 ERA with the Loons. His last outing with the team came on Aug. 13 when he started and allowed two runs in 3.1 innings in what was his seventh loss and fourth consecutive.

The 19 year old has fared much better in seven games as a reliever this season. Arano is 1-0 and has three saves with an impressive 1.31 ERA when he’s come out of the bullpen. The young pitcher will be assigned to Single-A Clearwater for the Phillies.

Arano will re-join Valentin, who is currently playing for the Threshers; Valentin and Arano were teammates on the Loons this season. Valentin, a middle infielder, is hitting .235 in nine games since being traded to the Phillies organization.

Hernandez is 2-1 in four starts since joining the Dodgers and is next scheduled to take the mound Monday.
