Dodgers News: Puig Misses First Full Squad Workout

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig had to miss the team’s first full squad workout of the year. Don’t worry, it wasn’t for anything major. He’s recovering from having his wisdom teeth removed, and he’s still not fully ready to get back out there and give it a go.

Having your wisdom teeth removed is something a lot of people go through, and it’s quite a painful experience when you’re trying to recover and feel all groggy half the time. So, it’s to be expected that Puig is missing just a little time after having the oral surgery done.

ICYMI: Yasiel Puig Is Buying A Helicopter

From the Associated Press, via Yahoo! Sports:

Puig, who underwent surgery on Tuesday, is still in camp. He attended a meeting Thursday morning before the club took the field at Camelback Ranch. The outfielder is beginning his fourth season with the Dodgers.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts went on to say that he expects Puig to be out there on Friday for the practice session. As noted, he had the surgery on Tuesday and it does take a few days for someone to get their bearings back after having the procedure done. No one should be worried about this.

Puig is attempting to come back from a disastrous 2015 that saw him miss substantial time dealing with hamstring injuries and only managing to hit .255 with 11 home runs in 282 at-bats. Puig hopes an energized offseason that saw him lose weight will yield great results in 2016.

The Dodgers will need Puig’s production this upcoming season if they’re to contend for not only a division title, but also a world championship. The 25-year old Puig can still be one of the game’s most dynamic players if he figures it all out again. The team is certainly hopeful that he will, and we are, too.

  1. Figures, Wait till the day before you know you have to show up for work to have oral surgery.

  2. Wisdom teeth isn’t an emergency surgery. Couldn’t this have been planned better? So much for changing things up.

  3. We’re always speaking of how lousy Puig was last yr. Wasn’t he hurt and still trying to contribute, so I suppose that Peterson, Rollins, Ellis, Grandal and the others in the dugout hit over .255. Maybe i’m missing  something. Zack Greinke was a better hitter than those bums. Maybe you think that he’s  being over paid like Crawford and Ethier. I wonder why is that?

  4. BobbyPaulson why not trade Puig, like we did Gordon. Maybe then he will prosper and be appreciated like Gordon is. Players want to be appreciated, not put under a microscope for every small transgression.
