Dodgers News: Puig Optimistic About Breaking Slump

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a day off on Monday coming off a full week of games. They now head on the road for a week, and still have many question marks to address.

From bullpen issues to hitting woes the Dodger have struggled on offense.

Despite coming out with a 1-0 victory over the San Diego Padres, pitcher Clayton Kershaw drove in the games only run as well as pitched 9 innings.

As for right fielder Yasiel Puig he was put in the leadoff spot for the first time this season. Unfortunately, Puig struggled and went 0-for-4.

From Joey Kaufman, Orange County Register:

“Good pitches, but no hit,” Puig said in English.

Puig had a .405 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage on April 14. Since then he’s hitting .127 and reaching base at a .143 clip.

The solution, he said in Spanish through an interpreter, is simple: “Keep working day to day in the cage. It’s a long season. Nobody said it would be easy. Just keep working.”

Then in English, Puig sounded optimistic.

“Keep going. Keep working,” he said. “Have fun in the game. Maybe later the hit is coming. Maybe in Tampa. Maybe in Toronto. Maybe in the next home game.”

Puig has been making significant strides this season on and off the field. Even showing off his cannon arm and athleticism. Manager Dave Roberts believes the teams hitting woes are more mental, and even gave Puig the day off on Saturday.

Switching things up can cause a positive change, and it seems Puig is ready and up to the challenge to get his game back on track.
