Dodgers News: Puig to Start Monday vs. New York Mets

In the series finale vs. the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers Yasiel Puig was not in the starting lineup. It’s been a long road trip for the Dodgers with ups and downs. In the series vs. the Tampa Bay Rays Puig was 4-for-10 including a double and a homer, but then went 0-for-4 vs. the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Puig did have some success in Toronto showing off his cannon arm in one game, but was taken out of the starting lineup by manager Dave Roberts on Sunday.

From Ken Gurnick, MLB.com writer:

“We’ve got a stretch of a lot of games, and I want him to be ready for the Mets series [beginning Monday night], and we’ve got players on the roster that need to play,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Trayce is swinging well, and I’ve got him in there.”

Trayce Thompson showed off his batting skills when he hit a home run that sent twitter into a frenzy. He entered Sunday’s game batting .268.

So far this season Puig is batting .236/.288/.391.

The Dodgers return home for a nine game home stand and it seems Roberts wants to make sure he has his best weapons at his disposal. Roberts also doesn’t seem to concerned with Puig’s struggles in Toronto.

From Ken Gurnick, MLB.com writer:

“I’m not too concerned with results, it’s more the process and quality. Just give him a day to clear his head and get ready for the Mets. Mechanical is fine, but it’s tough to be too sound mechanically when you’re swinging at balls out of the strike zone.”

At least while in Toronto, Puig took advantage of his time and went to the aquarium on Saturday, where he ran into a familiar person.

Hashtag game on point as always.
