Dodgers News: Ramirez Tells Agent Not To Call Him During Negotiation

[new_royalslider id=”5″] The Los Angeles Dodgers and their shortstop Hanley Ramirez are in private negotiations for a contract extension to keep the slugger in town for the significant future.

A deal was not done before the season, but that does not mean a deal will not be done by the end of it. If a deal is struck, it will be without Ramirez handling any of the negotiation.

According to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com, the 30-year-old has given his agent specific instructions on how to handle the process (in Spanish translated to English):

I told my agent that I do not want to know anything; to not call me. That he should do what he feels is appropriate, said Ramirez. That he should call me for the physical; to call me and tell me ‘hey, you have a physical tomorrow.’

Ramirez is in his last year of a six-year extension he originally signed with the Miami Marlins and should be looking for the same amount of years in his next deal. Since joining the Dodgers, he is hitting a combined .307 with 30 home runs and 101 RBI in 153 total games over parts of three seasons. Last year, Ramirez was a catalyst in the team’s second-half surge from last place to National League West champions. Many believe that his injury in the NLCS is a big reason that the Dodgers didn’t advance against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Dodgers currently have a core of players with new extensions or multiple years left on their contracts and adding Ramirez would give the team a group that is capable of competing for a World Series every season. A new deal for Ramirez may come with the stipulation that he move to third base in the future if the Dodgers are ready to bring up one of their prospects.

  1. I’m a lifelong Dodgers fan and some may not agree with me but I hope they get to keep Ramirez. I’m good with his agent calling all the shots but just make sure he’s in for the years to come.
