Dodgers News: Rich Hill Could End Up In Pen, Alex Wood Starting

After a stellar performance from Alex Wood Wednesday night, in which he threw six shutout innings against the San Francisco Giants, it appears he could see another round or more in the Dodgers rotation.

Dave Roberts announced that Alex Wood will remain in the rotation, at least until Rich Hill returns from the disabled list after he has contributed a string of good performances.

Wood did deliver a fantastic start against the Giants but was unable to return after 77 pitches as Roberts pulled him due to it being the highest pitch count Wood has had since late 2016. More consecutive starts will allow Wood to build his pitch count upward towards 100.

In what seems like a shock scenario that was brought up is the option of leaving Wood in the rotation once Rich Hill returns, which would push Hill into the Dodger bullpen.

A relatively short bullpen stint could allow Hill some time to work around his blister situation with smaller workload and lower pitch counts.

  1. The Rich Hill signing just gets better and better. What was the brain trust thinking of when they gave up good pitching prospects to trade for him and then signing him to a four year contract. And about Wood, to hell with the pitch count that loss is on Davey Boy completely.
