Since the Dodgers clinched the NL West title for the first time since 2009, much of the discussion has centered around Poolgate. After beating the Diamondbacks 7-6 yesterday, the Dodgers respected Arizona’s wishes to not celebrate on the field and jumped into the pool instead.

Numerous people have commented on the Dodgers celebrating in the pool including the Diamondbacks CEO Derek Hall and Senator John McCain. Hall believed it was disrespectful and classless while taking a shot at Dodgers Stadium. McCain shared similar sentiments by saying the Dodgers are overpaid, immature, arrogant, spoiled brats.

However, the players weren’t offended and didn’t take it seriously as Hall and McCain. Catcher Miguel Montero tweeted his congratulations while pitcher Brandon McCarthy didn’t mind as long as his Diamondbacks can celebrate in the pool next season. Clayton Kershaw told reporters the Dodgers meant no disrespect and if the Diamondbacks had clinched the NL West title at Dodgers Stadium, they would have earned the right to celebrate.

While the Dodgers clinched the NL West, they will look to capture home field advantage as they are still behind the Braves and Cardinals in the National League standings. With nine games remaining, the Dodgers will look to avoid starting the NLDS on the road.
