The Los Angeles Dodgers endured somewhat of a scare during their offseason trade of Matt Kemp as the San Diego Padres hesitated to give final approval on the deal before eventually signing off.

Trades falling apart after being agreed upon isn’t commonplace, but nonetheless is a possibility. The Dodgers are now going through another interesting scenario after acquiring Brian Ward, Ryan Webb and a competitive balance draft pick from the Baltimore Orioles.

Ward joined Triple-A Oklahoma City and the draft pick certainly comes is valuable, but Webb figured to factor into a Dodgers’ bullpen that’s without Kenley Jansen and Brandon League. However, it was reported the 29-year-old reliever wasn’t expected to join the Dodgers in Arizona, which began to raise questions.

As first noted on MLB.com’s transactions page, the Dodgers announced Sunday evening Webb was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Webb, who’s owed $2.75 million this season, was designated for assignment by the Orioles after reportedly rejecting a Minor-League assignment. He’s out of options and it’s believed the 29 year old cleared waivers.

The Dodgers have maintained they expect players in their farm system to get an opportunity at the Major League level this season and coupled with a bullpen that’s far from set in stone, may have been enough to convince Webb to accept the assignment.

Webb had 37 strikeouts in 49.1 innings and a 3.83 ERA in 51 games last season with the Orioles, which was his first with them. The Dodgers now have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
