No stranger to charitable work, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu is again taking an initiative to help those affected by the Sewol ferry disaster. On Friday, the Dodgers announced Ryu donated $100,000 and on Sunday, Ryu will take time to sign autographs in exchange for donations that will be given to the survivors and families of those who passed away in the ferry’s capsizing.

Festivities at the Viva Los Dodgers event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and according to the press release, Ryu will begin signing at 11:45 a.m.:

Tomorrow, Hyun-Jin Ryu will sign autographs for fans from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Viva Los Dodgers in lot 6 for monetary donations that will benefit the survivors and families of those who lost their lives aboard the South Korean ferry Sewol, which capsized on April 16. Ryu will sign autographs for donations in the Dodgers’ autograph tent located to the right of the stage and has already shown support for his native South Korea having pledged yesterday a $100,000 donation via his HJ 99 foundation to a charity to help those affected by the Sewol ferry disaster.

According to Jon Weisman of DodgerInsider.com, Ryu will also select a fan to throw out the first pitch ahead of Sunday’s game:

Ryu will also select a fan at Viva Los Dodgers to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Sunday’s game.

Ryu’s previous charity work involved him releasing two K-pop songs in an effort to raise money for a South Korean performing arts organization. Along with the ferry sinking off the coast of Ryu’s native South Korea, it departed Incheon, which is Ryu’s hometown. The ferry was en route to the island of Jeju, which is described as the equivalent of Hawaii when it capsized.

While any amount raised won’t offset what damage the tragedy has caused, it is an opportunity for Dodger fans to contribute to a cause that Ryu holds dear to his heart. Fans with a ticket to Sunday’s game can enter Viva Los Dodgers free of charge.
