Dodgers News: Scott Kazmir Likely Out for The Week

Scott Kazmir’s situation is getting progressively worse.

Kazmir exited his start a week ago with an injury. He’s been experiencing the same hip soreness that plagued him last season.

After the last start, Kazmir said he couldn’t gain any power in his delivery. He was already in a competition for a rotation spot, but that chance is slipping away.

A report yesterday indicated Brandon McCarthy and Alex Wood are the leaders for the No. 4 and 5 slots following Clayton Kershaw, Kenta Maeda and Rich Hill. Wood is a bit surprising, as Kazmir-McCarthy was viewed as the likely pairing before spring training.

Kazmir is in a tough spot. Injuries are robbing him the opportunity to earn a rotation spot, and other players, such as Hyun-Jin Ryu, are passing him by.

The Dodgers shopped Kazmir in the offseason. That would be the logical route before Opening Day if he’s healthy. Despite not cracking the Dodgers’ rotation, Kazmir could be a useful middle of the rotation arm for another team. Even if it means L.A. covering a substantially portion of salary, it’s in the best interest for both sides to split unless something changes soon.

Julio Urias will not come out of the bullpen

  1. Darn there goes our number 9 starter. Good we have 5 more of them. Why don’t we trade them all for a number 2 starter?
