Dodgers News: Scott Van Slyke and Chris Hatcher Receive One-Year Contracts

The Dodgers agreed to one-year contracts with Scott Van Slyke and Chris Hatcher to avoid arbitration. The Los Angeles Dodgers twitter reported the news on Thursday.

During the 2016 season, Van Slyke was placed on the disabled list with a right wrist irritation on Aug. 9. The Dodgers outfielder underwent arthroscopic surgery on Aug. 27 to address his injury. Van Slyke, 30, had a slash of .225/.292/.606 with one home run and seven RBIs.

Hatcher, 31, had a record of 5-4 with a 5.53 ERA in 40 2/3 innings pitched for the Dodgers in the 2016. On July 20, the Dodgers right-handed reliever was on the DL due to a strain in his left oblique after pitching against the Nationals.

Teams have until 5pm PT on Friday to extend contract offers to arbitration-eligible players. The Dodgers have seven arbitration-eligible players on their roster which include:

  • Yasmani Grandal
  • Josh Fields
  • Luis Avilan
  • Alex Wood
  • Louis Coleman
  • Vidal Nuño
  • Darin Ruf

The players that do not receive a contract offer by the deadline on Friday would become a free agent, referred to as being “non-tendered.”
