Dodgers News: Seager Takes Responsibility For Murphy Advancing

The Los Angeles Dodgers may have fallen short of winning the World Series this season, but it’s difficult to ignore the young talent on the roster that figures to serve as building blocks moving forward.

Included in that is Corey Seager, who was called up in early September and played his way onto the postseason roster as the starting shortstop. “It ended badly, but it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it,” Seager said of his time in the Majors.

“The veterans on this team helped me out a lot. So it was smooth sailing, but we came up short.” While Adrian Gonzalez and Zack Greinke didn’t place blame on one person for allowing David Murphy to advance from first to third base on a walk, Seager put the mental error on his shoulders.

“Probably mine [mistake]. I should have at least gone halfway to the bag,” he said. “I was talking about the next play, and unfortunately I wasn’t paying attention and he got to sneak by. That’s something we have to discuss beforehand and work out.” Murphy wound up scoring on a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning.

“Somebody has got to be there. If it’s me, Greinke, somebody,” Seager continued. “Somebody has got to cover there. That’s a huge mistake on our part and we got to know ahead of time if that happens which one of us is going to cover.”

Although his first taste of life in the Majors and postseason run was brief, Seager should be with the club out of Spring Training next year, barring any surprises.

  1. He didn’t need to? then who is responsible? that was a major league bone headed play that led to their loss..almost up there with Buckner’s boot of the ball in the 86 series.
