Dodgers News: Seager, Turner Will Not Move Around

One of the thoughts all offseason has been that manager Dave Roberts is going to move Corey Seager and Justin Turner around the diamond at times just to give guys days off here and there. However, apparently, the Los Angeles Dodgers won’t be doing that at all this season.

Yesterday, Roberts told the media that there are no plans for the team to move either guy off of their starting spot in the field. Seager is set to begin the season, his first full one in Major League Baseball, at shortstop while Turner is slated to begin the year at third base.

From David Vassegh (@THEREAL_DV), co-host of “Dodger Talk” on AM-570:

As Roberts states, the team does not intend for Seager to play anything other than shortstop all season long. While Seager is large for the position – he stands 6-foot-4 – that doesn’t preclude him from succeeding at one of the game’s most vital positions. And, apparently, he won’t be moving to third base.

The reason for that? Well, as Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) of the Orange County Register tweeted, the team has a capable third baseman already:

With Roberts also saying that Turner is the third baseman this season, that means that Turner is unlikely to be moved around much. It also means that the left side of the infield is pretty much intact all season long, outside of days off here and there to get them some rest and get their bodies right.

This is the plus side to having so much versatility, as well. With Seager and Turner pretty much locked into two spots without the possibility of moving around much, it leaves the other players fresh enough by rotating with other players. The hope is that each guy stays healthy, especially since they’re going to be counted on big time this year.

There’s obviously no word on how much rest each guy will get throughout the year, especially in Turner’s case, but this is a positive sign since the coaching staff and front office clearly believes in each one at their respective positions. Plus, it’s just nice to know where someone’s going to play.
