Dodgers News: Shawn Tolleson Rehab Pushed Back With Hip Injury
The Dodgers bullpen was once the weakest link, but overall they rank 12th in baseball with a 3.50 ERA after a terrible start to the season. Reliever Shawn Tolleson was lost after just one appearance this season after he posted a 4.30 ERA in 37.2 innings last year and was counted on to be a nice arm out of the ‘pen this year.
However, Tolleson was slowed by a back injury after one appearance this year and as he was coming back, he suffered a new injury: his hip. Don Mattingly told Austin Laymance of Dodgers.com that Tolleson suffered a setback and has put his rehab on hold:
He’s getting slowed down.I haven’t heard that he’s been shut down for the year. I just heard that he’s on hold.
It’s unfortunate to hear that Tolleson won’t be coming up during September call-ups as he lived in the high 90’s with his fastball and showed promise during his brief stint with the Dodgers.
Once Mattingly took Brandon League out of the closer’s role, the rest of the bullpen slotted into their specific roles. Kenley Jansen has been lights out as the closer and Brian Wilson has looked good in three appearances.
While Tolleson won’t be coming up in September, he’ll likely start spring training healthy and ready to go as he tries to lock down a spot in the Dodgers bullpen next year.
