Dodgers News: Steve Lyons Not Retained By Dodgers For 2014 Season

The end of the 2013 regular season not only meant the Dodgers were going to the playoffs, but the end of their partnership with KCAL 9 and Fox Sports.

Like the Lakers last season, the Dodgers signed a reported 25-year $8 billion contract with Time Warner Cable and will launch their own channel, SportsNet LA next season. Because they were switching networks, the Fox Sports TV personalities won’t be with the Dodgers next season and one of them, Steve Lyons, made an announcement via his own Twitter account this morning:

Due to Vin Scully’s travel schedule, Lyons and partner Eric Collins called all road games outside California and Arizona on KCAL and Fox Sports. In addition to that, Lyons was an analyst for “Dodgers Live” on Fox Sports Prime Ticket that aired before and after all Dodger games.

However, since their contract expired at the end of the season, Fox Sports decided not to air any pre or postgame coverage during the Dodgers playoff run.

Time Warner and the Dodgers haven’t made any announcements about other possible analysts they’ll have on the new Dodger channel, but Lyons made the announcement that he won’t be involved in any way.

UPDATE: Bill Shaikin of the LA Times at 12:15 PST:

Collins also is not expected to return, but a Dodgers official said the team would not confirm or comment on any broadcast personnel decisions until after the season.
