Dodgers News: Team Acquires Brock Peterson For Cash Considerations

[new_royalslider id=”206″] Under Guggenheim’s control, the Los Angeles Dodgers not only committed to a record payroll, they’ve also made a concerted effort to fill out the depth in their farm system.

On Tuesday, the Dodgers took another a step towards adding depth to their organization as they announced the acquisition of first baseman Brock Peterson from the Washington Nationals in exchange for cash. Peterson was drafted in the 49th round of the 2002 draft by the Minnesota Twins and has spent the majority of his career in the minors.

In 72 games this season with the Nationals Triple-A affiliate, Peterson hit .250 with six home runs, 31 RBIs and a .367 slugging percentage. The only time the first baseman has spent in the Majors was in 2013 with the St. Louis Cardinals. As a member of the Cardinals, Peterson hit .077 in 26 at-bats.

Peterson could see time with the Dodgers in a similar fashion that Jamie Romak did and Clint Robinson now occupies. Both players were primarily with the team for pinch-hit appearances, but each could also capable of spelling Adrian Gonzalez at first base.

With the Cardinals, Peterson played five games in left field and four at first base. At the Minor League level, Peterson has played first base and served as a designated hitter; he last played the outfield in 2011.

The Dodgers have certainly reaped the benefits of stockpiling talent through the organization as they’ve been forced to look at their Minor League affiliates in order to fill the void left by players being placed on the disabled list.

  1. Whatever happened to former dodgers catcher Steve Yeager he was my favorite player growing up!

  2. Why would you even think about getting this guy on your team? Batted under .100 during his time in the majors!! That’s worst than the dodgers pitchers!!!!!

    1. True ! 30 plus years old and can’t hit over .250 in the minors ! A typical Colletti action !

  3. Last year in AAA MEMPHIS he hit .296 with 25 homers, he is a career .271 in AAA. So he can do better but when you don’t get a chance to play very much what do you do. Give him a chance. He is a pretty good guy.
