Dodgers News: Team Announces Signing Of Five International Prospects

Dodger StadiumThe Los Angeles Dodgers have been considered trailblazers in terms of finding and signing international talent. Whether it’s been cornering the Asian market in signing Chan Ho Park and Hideo Nomo years ago or Yasiel Puig and Hyun-Jin Ryu recently, the Dodgers have spanned the globe for talent.

This season, they signed high-profile Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero to a four-year deal deal, but it they announced earlier this afternoon that they signed five more international prospects.

16-year-olds Outfielder Shakir Albert and catcher Hendrik Clemntina were signed out of Curaco while 16-year-old outfielder Julio Lugo was signed out of the Dominican Republic. 17-year-old catcher Gersel Pitre was signed out of Venezuela and 18-year-old pitcher Misja Harcksen was signed out of the Netherlands.

It’s unclear what the next move is for the prospects, but it’s clear the Dodgers are committed to building a strong international pool of talent.
