Dodgers News: Team Releases Alex Guerrero

The Los Angeles Dodgers twitter page announced on Wednesday that the team has decided to release utility player Alex Guerrero, after signing him to a 4 year $28 million deal in 2013.

This comes shortly after the team designated Guerrero for assignment after he started the season on the DL. Guerrero did not appear for the Dodgers this season after a tumultuous 2015 campaign. His year started promisingly enough providing a power bat off the bench, but his defensive deficiencies and overall inconsistency prevented him from ever becoming an every day player.

Perhaps the highlight of Guerrero’s short lived Dodgers career was a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th against the Colorado Rockies to give the Dodgers a one run lead.

He flashed ability at the plate that suggested he had the potential to be an impact hitter, but the rest of his game never caught up to his bat. He finished his career with the Dodgers with a slash line of .224/.251/.414 in 117 games. We wish him the best of luck in whatever situation he lands in next.
