Dodgers News: Team Signs Ex-Mariner Iwakuma

As we kind of knew it might, the pace at which the news is rolling it has quickened since Zack Greinke’s departure.

Sunday evening, the Dodgers reportedly to agreed with the first pitcher tasked with filling those giant shoes.

ESPN’s Jim Bowden with the report:

Hisashi Iwakuma is by no means a superstar, but is a solid pitcher. Last year in Seattle, he went 9-5 with 111 strikeouts, a 3.54 ERA and a 1.064 WHIP. Depending on the contract, obviously, the signing brings value back at a fraction of the record-breaking contract Greinke signed.

Rumors are also swirling around the Dodgers’ pursuit of Aroldis Chapman, which makes this signing all the more interesting. All the Dodgers’ starters would really need to do is get the game to the seventh or eighth inning, where Chapman and Kenley Jansen would become one of the better one-two punches in baseball.

  1. Great – but we need another pitcher to serve as a number three or four to compliment Kershaw, Anderson, Iwakuma and replace McCarthy who won’t be back til June or July, and Ryu, who might not be ready. then a top flight reliever to serve as the 8th inning setup and possible closer if Jansen has worked 3 days in row or is ineffective

  2. That’s all the Dodgers starters would have to do? Didn’t every starter we had, other than Greinke and Kershaw, have a very hard time doing that last year?

  3. You need to proofread your articles, and don’t use words like “giant” and you will be fine.

  4. Get Chapman,Jensen goes 8th ining Chapman ninth. Can bring Jensen in for two batters in Seventh.Chapmen basically a one in ing pitcher.

  5. Who do you suggest.I asked Lasorda about Pat Listek,or Cishack fromSt.Louis, last year, but he didn’t answer me.anyone check his vitals ??
