Dodgers News: Team To Re-Sign Chase Utley

Now that Zack Greinke has signed in Arizona, look for the new to start rolling in.

Sunday afternoon, said news started with the Dodgers re-signing veteran second baseman Chase Utley.



Reports had been floated that Utley preferred the west coast so it appears he got his wish.

A major criticism of the Andrew Friedman administration is how they don’t take things like chemistry and intangibles into account, so it is interesting to see them sign someone who offers both of those things. Unlike that Michael Young trade of a couple years ago, Utley still belongs on a major league field. Many fans will point to his locker-room presence, but he offers more than that. Utley will probably be seen as the backup second-baseman to whoever the Dodgers either sign or trade for this season. He’s too old to be seen as an everyday solution to that issue on the roster.
