Dodgers News: The Real ‘Best Fans In Baseball’ Are In Los Angeles

If you are to believe a Forbes article from last March, the St. Louis Cardinals have the best fans in baseball, while the Dodgers weren’t even in the top ten.

If you are to take other factors into consideration, then it’s wise to come to the conclusion that it is, in fact, the Los Angeles Dodgers who have the best fans in baseball since, well, they show up in greater numbers. And not just for the home games, either.

ICYMI: Dodgers Roundtable: Designated Thoughts

Per Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe:

For the third year in a row the Dodgers led the majors in average attendance. And for the second time in three years they also led the majors in road attendance. And historically, the fans have always showed up: the Dodgers have finished first or second in attendance 35 times since moving to LA in 1958.

Essentially, the Dodgers have a litany of fans that show up wherever they play. In some aspects, they’re almost like Steelers fans or Yankees fans in that they travel extremely well because there’s simply just far more of them to go around.

There’s a chart that Cafardo shows that details just how dominant of a fanbase the Dodgers have had over the years. They’ve led baseball in attendance 25 times, and have had the widest gaps in attendance totals on four separate occasions.

While Dodger Stadium is definitely larger than Busch Stadium, that still doesn’t account for the Dodgers averaging more fans on the road and a higher percentage of attendance at road games. Not to bemoan the Cardinals, but not as many people go to watch them play when they’re on the road.

If a team is constantly drawing both home fans and away fans in record numbers, then they’re clearly doing something correct. As of right now, the Dodgers have been doing well over the last several years, and even ever since they moved to Los Angeles.

That does not seem to be changing anytime soon.

  1. It’s true that Dodger fans are the best in baseball!!  It’s also true that L.A. Dodger ownership is preparing to hose 70% of the LOYAL Dodger fans who watch the team on television, for the 3rd consecutive season…….

  2. I think it is correct to say that Dodger fans are the best in baseball.  Growing in in LA County, I never gave that a thought.  But I have since moved away and have been gone now for almost fifty years.  While attending Dodger/Giant games in San Francisco, I notice several things.  1).  Giant fans are often rude.  2).  Dodger fans root for the Blue Crew no matter what–good season or bad.  And the Dodger fans in attendance in San Francisco do not leave until the last out!  NO FREEWAY MISERIES TO CONTEND WITH.  When I greet the visiting Dodger fans, it is like I am meeting a long lost friend.  I’ll take fans that have grown up being tutored by Vin Scully in sportsmanship any day of the week!

  3. You can’t get Time Warner or Charter? We have Charter and I love watching SportsNet LA!!

  4. VinSmith  Been a Dodger fan all my life. Seen all the World Series wins in LA. Sang the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium on September 9th 1981. Still the biggest thrill in my life. Win or lose, I stay true to the blue. I am saddened that this will be Vinny’s last season. But we all know he could not live forever. After this season, Dodger baseball will be very different….

  5. blue0622  I live in Colorado and use MLB network to get the games streamed live…the only games I do not get are the games against the Rockies…at least not until the next day…..

  6. Michael Norris blue0622 When there’s a will, there’s a way!
Before SNLA came to Charter, I watched all games on MLB At Bat. I still watch other teams that way. Sometimes I would go to strikeout.co. I’m so happy that I can watch all games and everything else that’s on the channel. Even now, I watch the interviews, etc.

  7. The Dodger fans are definitely the best fans in baseball! We continue to lead MLB in attendance. I bleed blue and love the team, win or lose, just the same as most of the fans. GO DODGERS!!!
