Dodgers News: Urias To Be Sent Down To Triple-A (REPORTS)
Last week, #KershawDay was out of commission due to Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw going on the disabled list. This week, #UriasDay will be taking a breather as well for the time being.
According to multiple reports, 19-year-old Julio Urias will be optioned to the minor leagues on Tuesday. No corresponding move by the Dodgers has been announced at this time.

At the end of June, Urias’ future with the Dodgers was up in the air. He was to be on an innings count when he came up to the major leagues this season. Between pitching for both the Oklahoma City and Los Angeles Dodgers, Urias has tallied 77.1 innings of work, which is the second-most frames he has pitched in his career (87.2 in 2014, all in the minor leagues).
Monday night’s start saw Urias continue his struggles, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing five earned runs against the Baltimore Orioles. The concern with Urias besides the innings limit is the pitch count that he has encountered during his starts this season.
Urias’ 75 pitches during Monday’s 7-5 over the Orioles were the lowest of his career and his three and one-third innings was his shorting outing since his major league debut on May 27.
The Dodgers now have a little wiggle room to make this move with the return of pitcher Brandon McCarthy on Sunday. The Dodgers should announce the expected start of Hyun-Jin Ryu for Thursday, while the move to put Urias in Triple-A will clear up a roster spot for 29-year-old Korean southpaw. What do you think about this decision to send him back down? We asked Twitter and here was the response!
