Dodgers News: ‘Vin Scully Avenue’ Might Be On The Way

If a Los Angeles City Councilman has his way, Elysian Park Avenue will be renamed Vin Scully Avenue. Yes, you’re reading that right.

Councilman Gil Cedillo wants to rename the street between Sunset Boulevard and Stadium Way to honor the Dodgers’ legendary broadcast. And, in all honesty, it’s not a bad idea.

ICYMI: Smokeless Tobacco Banned From Dodger Stadium

From MyNewsLA.com:

When Mayor Eric Garcetti made a similar proposal in 2013 in response to a viewer question on a public affairs television program, Scully said he would prefer for a street near Dodger Stadium to be renamed after Walter O’Malley, who brought the team to Los Angeles, or his son Peter, instead of himself.

If there’s one thing Vin Scully has always been, it’s humble. He’s never referred to the Dodgers as “we” or “us” simply because he’s there to tell the story of what’s happening on the field. There’s a certain level of love that comes with that.

Scully has always been a complete professional about his job, and him wanting to rename the street after Walter O’Malley is just a testament to his never-ending humbleness. He’s a man of honor.

But, I think everyone growing up in the area would actually approve with renaming it Vin Scully Avenue. After all, one of the first things you think of when you enter the Dodger Stadium parking lot is that Vin Scully’s there waiting for you.

There’s a warmth there. It’s a home. It’s a cathedral. It’s sacred.

Whether or not the motion passes is almost irrelevant since Scully is already nestled deep in the fabric of that stadium and that area. It’d just be cool to give a street his name.
