Dodgers News: Vin Scully To Call Six Innings On Radio For Playoffs

Arguably the best news of the 2013 Dodgers season was when Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully announced he’d be coming back for one more season in 2014.

Listening to Vin call another division title this week had everyone thinking: Will the cable networks make an exception to let him announce the games if the Dodgers advance to the World Series?

However, Scully talked to Arash Markazi of ESPNLA.com about his postseason plans:

I’ll do the front three and the back three, Scully told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Friday. Charley and Rick will do the middle three. I’m just going to do what I would normally do.

During the regular season, Scully can be heard for the first three innings on the radio before Steiner and Monday take over for the rest of the game. For the playoffs, TBS has the exclusive rights to the division series, but only the NLCS as FOX takes over for the ALCS.

Back in the late 70’s, Scully used to call every World Series for CBS alongside Sparky Anderson as he was able to do national broadcasts along with calling every Dodger game.

When asked whether or not he’d entertain the idea of doing TV, Scully shot that down rather quickly:

I’m just going to be on radio, Scully said. I have no reason to be on TV. I don’t deserve to be there. I’m not going to intrude on the fellas who have been working TV. No, no, I’m not going to go near TV.

Always humble, Dodger fans will now have to mute the TV and play the radio alongside for the first three and last three innings of the playoff game as everyone wants to hear Vin call the final out of a Dodger World Series title.

  1. Vin Scully is just a class act! When he calls a game it’s not just broadcasting, it’s a long time friend painting a word picture & telling great stories. Who needs TV ?
