Dodgers News: White Sox Claim Onelki Garcia Off Waivers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have started to focus on building from within since the Guggenheim Partners took over.

They have put money into international signings, as well as focused on the draft. In the past year, the Dodgers have seen some of their players develop into serviceable players and top prospects. One problem with so much promising talent is that it becomes difficult to find places on the roster for every player.

According to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune, the Dodgers have lost one of their talents:

Garcia was the Dodgers third round draft pick in the 2012 draft who reached the big leagues in 2013. The left-handed Cuban missed all of 2014 due to his recovery from elbow and knee surgeries. His claiming coincided with another former Dodger being removed from the White Sox roster, Ronald Belisario. The White Sox designated the right-hander for assignment to make room for Garcia and their other moves. Belisario joined the White Sox last winter, along with another former Dodger, Javy Guerra.

In 2013, Garcia made his debut and appeared in three games for a total of 1.1 innings. He allowed two runs in his second appearance, while his other two appearances were scoreless efforts. The 25-year-old nearly made it back to the mound in 2014, but time ran out on his return. He was left off the 40-man roster and it cost the Dodgers the left-hander. Despite the loss of Garcia, the Dodgers still have J.P. Howell, Paco Rodriguez and Daniel Coulombe that pitched last season, and they could decide to bring back Scott Elbert. Because of the inconsistency in the bullpen, the team could also decide to bring in some new faces from free agency.

  1. Well there you have the impact of the new front office not really knowing the talent on the team and bringing in 2 guys who have virtually no chance to play on this team next year and losing a solid arm…moronic

    1. Dumb plain in simple I guess our new GM is actually sleeping instead of losing sleep like he said
