Dodgers News: Wood Not ‘Concerned’ About Injury

Alex Wood has dealt with some pretty tough injuries in the past. He’s already had Tommy John surgery, and a second one would almost certainly hamper his ability to get out on the mound in a full-time capacity. So, the Los Angeles Dodgers were concerned when he had to be scratched from Saturday’s start with left forearm tightness.

However, after his second start of the spring on Wednesday, it does appear that Wood is ready to go and that the forearm tightness is behind him. At least for now. He pitched three innings, threw in excess of 40 pitches, and gave up one run on four hits. The best news is he experienced no setbacks.

ICYMI: Can We Compare Joc Pederson And Trayce Thompson?

From Joey Kaufman, Staff Writer for the Orange County Register:

Alex Wood, who is projected to be the fourth starter in the pitching rotation, made his second spring start after he had been scratched last Saturday because of left forearm tightness. Wood allowed four hits and one run while throwing 40-plus pitches over three innings. “I wasn’t that concerned at all,” Wood said of the injury, “but it was nice to go out there, and have a start, and come out scot-free.”

As Wood states, it is good that he came out of that start “scot-free” since it puts him right on pace to still be the team’s fourth starter going into the regular season. With all the injuries the Dodgers have suffered already, losing Wood would be another big time blow that they can’t afford.

The Dodgers are looking for Alex Wood to reclaim just a little bit of his 2014 magic, but staying healthy is required. As of right now, if Wood says there’s nothing to worry about then there really might be nothing to worry about. However, as always has been the case with him, injury could just be one pitch away. Keep your fingers crossed.
