Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig Among Most Forged Autographs In 2013

Yasiel PuigLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was a huge story during the 2013 season, igniting a slumping team and capturing the baseball world with his exciting play.

The 23-year-old outfielder was known in Dodger circles after his strong Spring Training, but was under the national spotlight as the Dodgers ascended to the top of the NL West standings. With baseball fans seeking autographs and attention from Puig, he was put on the list of top-10 most forged autographs in 2013 according to Fox Sports:

1) Babe Ruth
2) Lou Gehrig
3) Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio
4) Michael Jordan
5) Yasiel Puig
6) Muhammad Ali
7) Tiger Woods
8) Derek Jeter
9) Wayne Gretzky
10) LeBron James

It’s a very impressive list to be apart of for the 23-year-old outfielder, who is one of the brightest stars in baseball. Brought up due to injuries in the outfield, Puig hit .319 with 19 home runs and 42 RBI while giving the Dodgers the needed energy to climb out of their 30-42 hole.

Puig’s celebrity and status among the baseball memorabilia community projects a signed photo is worth $150 dollars while a single signed baseball is worth $300 dollars or more.

According to Joe Orlando and Steve Grad of PSA/DNA, here’s some more information about the amount of Puig autograph forgeries:

As a result of his sudden rise and the general lack of genuine Puig autographs available to collectors, a large number of forgeries entered the market during the past year. In fact, PSA/DNA estimates that nearly 90% of the alleged Puig autographs submitted in 2013 were rejected.

If he continues on his current path, something Dodger fans are very hopeful about, Puig will continue to find his name off his list as people will try and falsely profit off his success.
