Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig Doesn’t Care About High Strikeout Rate

The Dodgers defeated the Giants 4-1 yesterday afternoon to take the series and have now beaten their hated rivals five out of the last six times to bury them further in the NL West race.

Since he’s been in the big leagues, Yasiel Puig has been the center of attention and that didn’t stop yesterday afternoon. Puig lead off the three-run ninth inning with a single off closer Sergio Romo and had an incredible bat-flip to go with it.

However, Puig struck out seven times in the three games, including four on Saturday and told Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times that it doesn’t phase him:

“Yesterday, I struck out four times,” Puig said. ‘Today, I struck out twice more. Tomorrow, I could have 10 more. But if my team wins, everything’s fine.”

Puig’s been in the big leagues for a little over a month and is still generating the same buzz he did during his first week. There have been flashes of his raw talent from the incredible throws from right field to getting thrown out at third when the Dodgers’ hottest hitter is up.

Hanley Ramirez and Puig got their revenge on Romo yesterday afternoon, after the Giants closer mocked Ramirez’s “I See You” celebration.

At the center of the All-Star Game controversy, Puig has made it known that he wants to play in the game and as of this morning, trailed Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman in the Final Vote.

Teams are starting to realize that he’s chasing pitches low and away, but Puig has shown that he’ll adjust and take what pitchers are giving him. If he’s buying into the team concept just a month into his career, he’ll be just fine as he goes through his first rough patch as a pro.
