Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig Has Been Claimed on Waivers

Fans and the media had mixed reactions when news dropped that Yasiel Puig had been placed on trade waivers. Many were terrified of letting go of the talented right fielder. Others were not worried and claimed that it didn’t mean anything. Well, the fans and media alike can settle down since Puig has officially been claimed.

On Tuesday, Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball released that Yasiel Puig had been claimed on waivers. An official team has not been released yet, but the Dodgers could work out a deal. However, keep in mind that he is not gone. The Dodgers can decide to keep him if a deal cannot be made. According to Ken Rosenthal, Puig is likely to be dealt during the off-season so that the Dodgers have more options.

This should come as no surprise to fans, considering how much Puig has been tearing it up with the OKC Dodgers. In 23 games, Puig is hitting .377 with 5 home runs and 14 RBIs. The OKC Dodgers also just clinched their division, showing major league baseball that Puig can help lead a team to the postseason.

Who Puig will be dealt to is still unknown. With waivers, the teams with the lowest winning percentages get first dibs, so we will have to wait and see if what they have to offer is enough. This is probably why Rosenthal thinks an off-season trade is more likely because the Dodgers will then be able to work with multiple teams instead of just one. Regardless, there is no denying that Yasiel Puig is on the market and the Dodgers are ready to deal for the right price.
