Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig, Kiké Hernandez Expected Back Monday

As large a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ spring training as injuries have been, it seems like many of those inflicted are coming back right at about the right time, doesn’t it?

Okay, aside from the starting rotation.

In the field, however, guys are either close are ready for Opening Day, with the lone qualm being that they haven’t played very much together. Alright, if we’re being technical they haven’t played at all together.

This latest update comes from Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

Outfielder Yasiel Puig (tight left hamstring), missed a second consecutive game but is expected to play on Monday. Kiké Hernandez (rib contusion) is also expected to play on Monday. Scott Kazmir, who left Saturday’s start early with cramps from dehydration, will make his next start on Wednesday as originally planned.

On the positive side, however, Roberts said shortstop Corey Seager (sprained left knee), who played six innings in a Minor League game on Saturday and had Sunday off, would play in another Minor League game Monday, could play in a Major League game by Wednesday and will play in the Freeway Series.

Puig and Seager are obviously much bigger pieces for the Dodgers but Kiké can’t be overlooked either, given the number of positions he’ll likely play. The three are all key cogs for what the Dodgers hope to do.

For how frustrating it was all spring to hear about soreness, tightness and tweaks, it seems they were simply showing precaution at a time where health is much more important than reps in a portion of the year that doesn’t matter at all.

In this very article, it’s stated that Kendrick will likely stay behind for extra minor league at-bats before rejoining the team, but it doesn’t sound as if Opening Day is really in danger the way it is with Yasmani Grandal.
