Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig Officially Sent To The Minors

The trade deadline was fairly intense yesterday and kept Dodger fans waiting on the edge of their seat for more! Unfortunately, the front office did not make any of the “impact” trades the fans were hoping for, but the news didn’t stop coming at 1 PM PST. Later in the afternoon, it was announced that Yasiel Puig was not on the plane headed to Colorado.

Early reports from Ken Rosenthal claimed that Puig had stormed out of the stadium after to being told his near future consisted of either being traded or the minor leagues. Later, Rosenthal apologized and confirmed that those reports were wrong and that there were no negative reactions from Yasiel. Luckily, Puig welcomed the apology with open arms and made sure to remind Ken Rosenthal that #PuigYourFriend.

Dodgers Have Solid, Yet Underwhelming Deadline

Well, the news dropped just as expected. On Tuesday the Dodgers officially announced that Yasiel Puig has been sent to the minors, something that hasn’t happened since 2013! Puig’s numbers have never lived up to his rookie season and have been on the decline since then. The latest acquisition of outfielder Josh Reddick has unfortunately made Puig dispensable, so the front office decided to finally act.

It was no secret that the Dodgers were trying to find a way to get rid of Puig before the trade deadline; sadly, there just was not a market for him. He is currently having a rough season with a .260 BA and 7 home runs in 81 games.

The potential in the 25 year old is undeniable! Hopefully a trip to the minors will restore his health, mindset, and skills so that he can return in September and October to help this team win a championship!

  1. Who couldn’t see this coming? A terrific athlete who just couldn’t seem to cope with big league expectations. If he can manage to turn himself around in the minors, he might be of value in late September or the playoffs.

  2. I, for one, really hope this helps him. We forget how tough it must’ve been to go from playing in an “amateur” Cuban league to defecting under horrific circumstances then getting to L.A. and taking off like a rocket. He has never really had the opportunity to learn the game … particularly the MLB game. He’s only 25 and he will be back … somewhere. Hope it’s with us as the .300 hitting beast he could be.
