Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig Out With Hip Soreness, Day-To-Day

NewDodgersNation_Store300x300[2]Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is putting together very interesting lineups down the stretch as he looks to get his ailing starters some rest and Hanley Ramirez, Yasiel Puig, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford are all out of the lineup today.

However, while it looked like Puig was receiving a routine day off, Mattingly shed some light that his star right fielder is actually dealing with a minor hip injury.

Talking to the media before the game today, Mattingly told Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com that Puig could be out for a while:

After giving the initial timetable, Mattingly joked around that he was being broad in order to get this injury right as he’s admitted to leading on the media about injuries.

Unfortunately for the Dodgers, they’re in a three-way tie for the second best record in the NL and if they continue to lose, they could start the NLDS on the road. Meanwhile, the entire outfield is injured while Matt Kemp tries to make his way back from hamstring tightness, but could return next week.

A leading candidate for NL Rookie of the Year, Puig is hitting .339 with 16 home runs and 37 RBIs as he looks to fend off Marlins rookie starter Jose Fernandez.

For now, consider Puig to be day-to-day and with the Dodgers willingness to rest players above gaining home field advantage, they’ll err on the side of caution for now.

UPDATE 5:19 pm PST: Austin Laymance of Dodgers.com talked to Yasiel Puig after the game
