Dodgers News: Yasiel Puig Will Not Be Suspended

In early March, it was reported that, according to sources, Major League Baseball would not be suspending or disciplining Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig for an incident involving his sister and a bouncer in Miami last November. Now, that report has turned out to be true.

According to an article just released by the Los Angeles Times, the offices of Major League Baseball will not be discipling Puig under the sport’s new domestic violence policy. Also, the league found zero evidence to corroborate the claim that the outfielder hit his sister at all.

From Bill Shaikin, contact reporter at the Los Angeles Times:

As a result, the league had no grounds to consider a suspension or any of the other potential punishments that are authorized under the policy, according to a person familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it in advance of an announcement. Players can be required to submit to counseling, for instance, but any discipline beyond a suspension is not publicly announced.

According to the article, the investigation also included interviews with both Puig’s sister and himself, as well as a review of the video that was available and talking to the employees at the bar where the incident occurred. Both Puig and his sister denied that he hit her, and no witness was found that saw it take place.

The league can reopen the investigation if it so chooses to in the future, but for now the word has come down that the Dodgers will have Yasiel Puig for the foreseeable future as Major League Baseball has chosen not to suspend him for the altercation at the bar. MLB ran their investigation and came the conclusion that he was not going to be disciplined.
