Dodgers News: Zack Greinke Dissects Outing Against Giants

Tuesday’s victory over the San Francisco Giants not only gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5.5-game lead in the division, it also marked Zack Greinke’s 15th win of the season and snapped Giants ace Madison Bumgarner’s five-game winning streak.

Despite the two teams playing 14 innings on Monday night, which carried into the early hours of Tuesday morning, there didn’t appear to be any hangover effect as the second of the three-game series very much had a postseason atmosphere.

“I think it was a really good game all the way around,” Greinke said of the Dodgers’ 2-1 win. “They were putting good at-bats against me, I was pitching good and Madison was pitching good. I don’t know how good our at-bats were because I don’t watch the other pitcher too much. Our defense was good, their defense seemed good to me.”

Greinke largely breezed through the night; only an infield single and two-out error in the second inning prevented him from taking the hill in the eighth with a perfect game. However, after recording one out in the eighth, the Giants knocked the right-hander out behind a trio of base hits with the last of the three scoring a run.

“I felt great, but then they were hitting line drives everywhere,” said Greinke. “Maybe it’s not as good as I think.” Overall however, Greinke was pleased with the start. “There aren’t many games where I don’t throw the ball where I want,” he said.

“Today, I was throwing the ball where I wanted a lot. I’ve been pretty consistent.” On the season he’s now 15-3 to go with a 1.59 ERA that leads the Majors. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly simply chalked the outing up to being another in a dominant season.

“I think I’ve said it a lot. A lot more of the same,” Mattingly said. “A guy that has weapons for everybody, he’s going to keep you in the game. He’s been tremendous all year.” That consistency has Greinke at the forefront of the discussion for the 2015 National League Cy Young Award.
