Dodgers News: Greinke Unsure If He’ll Reach 100 Percent

[new_royalslider id=”4″] Even if momentarily, the Los Angeles Dodgers have dodged a bullet with Zack Greinke only having his next scheduled start pushed back two days. Rather than taking the mound in the series finale against the San Diego Padres on Thursday, Greinke will face the New York Mets Saturday.

An MRI didn’t reveal any damage in Greinke’s elbow, other than what’s been described as irritation and soreness similar to what he dealt with in Spring Training of 2013. While Greinke’s current situation isn’t believed to be serious, he casted doubt as to whether or not he’d feel 100 percent this season, via ESPN LA’s Mark Saxon:

I guess I don’t really have a percentage or level of concern that I can describe,” Greinke said. “I don’t expect to be pitching at 100 percent. I mean, it’s possible, but I wouldn’t guarantee it, that’s for sure.”

Manager Don Mattingly said he’s concerned over the situation, but doesn’t believe it will escalate to Greinke being placed on the disabled list:

You’re concerned from the standpoint that he’s not 100 percent, but if he keeps feeling like he is right now, I don’t think he feels it’s a [disabled list] injury and I don’t think anybody feels like it’s a DL type of thing,” Mattingly said.

Already short on starters with Josh Beckett and Hyun-Jin Ryu both on the DL, should Greinke be unable to make his start on Saturday, the Dodgers would likely turn to Carlos Frias, who threw one inning in Wednesday’s loss.

Losing Greinke would also put a dent in the Dodgers’ hopes of not only clinching the National League West, but also home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs. Greinke is 12-8 with a 2.75 ERA this season in 25 starts.
