Dodgers Recap: Dodgers Beat White Sox, 6-1

In the Los Angeles Dodgers’ first Spring Training game of the 2016 season, the good guys prevailed over the Chicago White Sox by a final score of 6-1. The team led off the scoring early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and they never looked back after that.

Clayton Kershaw got the nod on the mound today, and he went 2 innings of one-hit baseball as he also walked a batter and struck out two foes. Among them was White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu. The other was Avisail Garcia. He looked good, in control, and looked like you would expect him to look.

The Dodgers got off on the right foot offensively when Howie Kendrick led off the bottom of the first with a walk. After that, Andre Ethier singled, Yasiel Puig singled to score Kendrick, and Yasmani Grandal singled home Ethier. In the second inning, third baseman Alex Guerrero hit a towering home run that has not quite landed yet.

After the White Sox got a run in the top of the sixth to pull within 3-1, the Dodgers tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more in the bottom of the seventh to push it to 6-1 and put the game effectively out of reach. It was a good day for the team as they got off on the right foot this spring.

Ethier went 1-for-2 with a run scored, Kendrick went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored, and Puig, Grandal, and Austin Barnes each went 1-for-2 with a run batted in. Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a run scored and run batted in thanks to his solo home run. Charlie Culberson went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored. Corey Seager went 0-for-2 and grounded into a double play.

The starting pitching effort today was delivered by Kershaw, as mentioned above, and he was followed by two perfect innings from Joe Blanton that saw the right-hander rack up three strikeouts, including fanning Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier. Yimi Garcia pitched a scoreless 5th, and Carlos Frias gave up one run over two innings. Adam Liberatore pitched a scoreless 8th while racking up two strikeouts. Matt West threw a scoreless 9th.

The Dodgers will be playing the Texas Rangers tomorrow, with a first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM Pacific Time. On the mound will be left-hander Scott Kazmir, and the team should be having Adrian Gonzalez for that game.
