Dodgers Rumors: Cardinals, Nationals Join Brian Dozier Pursuit

With the Dodgers and Twins’ negotiations reportedly at a standstill, Minnesota is talking Brian Dozier with other National League rivals. We previously heard San Francisco was interested, and now St. Louis and Washington have emerged as legitimate destinations for the second baseman, per Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN.

Wolfson tweets St. Louis is “very much in” on Dozier. The Nationals are still talking with Minnesota as well. The Giants are trying to get “creative” to pull off a trade. Given the state of their farm system, that may well mean a three-team trade.

Dozier is an appealing option for contenders. He’s coming off a career year in which he slugged 42 home runs. He’s signed for $15 million over the next two seasons. The Cardinals and Nationals already boast impressive infields, and Dozier would make each of their lineups that much more threatening. That said, neither team is desperate for a second baseman or right-handed bat. The Dodgers are weak in both areas.

Kolten Wong was mentioned in trade rumors this winter, so he could be a valuable piece in the Cardinals’ offer. Washington doesn’t have a player of such caliber to put in a package. San Francisco’s supposed creativity appears to be the only logical route to acquiring Dozier, but its purpose could be to drive the market up on the Dodgers or fellow NL contenders.

Los Angeles reportedly will include Jose De Leon for Dozier. De Leon is probably the most attractive realistic piece any of the aforementioned teams can offer, but if Minnesota doesn’t like the rest of the Dodgers’ offer, it could turn to a deal based around Wong.

Dozier suitors outside L.A. were hard to come by for most of the month. There were rumors of teams calling, but Los Angeles remained the prominent location. The New York Yankees were initially mentioned, but Brian Cashman said they weren’t interested. The Giants’ interest was previously reported, but a deal has always been a long shot.

Is the Ryan Braun rumor finally finished?

  1. As a Dodgers’ fan, I was hoping to see some other teams step up and trade for Dozier.  I fear that Dozier is a second coming of Dan Uggla, and the Dodgers don’t need that.

  2. Just move on guys.  It is becoming clear as day that Dozier isn’t our RHB power bat answer we need for this lineup.

  3. there is not a bad one you contract, if you can try a contract for 1 year.  Only have one more year that would be good also. I think he will be good but I don’t like that he will be changing leagues and all new pitchers . even said its a high reward little risk for Dozier. Go for him.
