Dodgers Rumors: Edinson Volquez In Talks To Join Dodgers Staff
It’s no secret that the Dodgers fifth spot in the rotation has been the weakest part, as is the case with many teams, but it sounds like management isn’t happy with the production.
Chris Capuano has been the fifth starter for most of the season and in his last four starts, he’s given up at least three runs and is 4-7 with a 4.74 ERA overall.
However, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Dodgers are kicking the tires on a former Padres pitcher:
Sources: LAD have serious interest in signing Edinson Volquez, who was released by the Padres. No. 5 starter Chris Capuano has struggled.

At first glance the move doesn’t make much sense since Volquez has struggled much more than Capuano this season. Pitching in a better home park, Volquez is 9-10 with a 6.01 ERA and was granted his release yesterday.
The final straw for Volquez in San Diego seemed to be his last start that saw him give up five runs and five hits in only 0.2 of an inning. Many point to the Dodgers starting Stephen Fife in Capuano’s place, but Fife has been dealing with issues at Triple A as Dodgers management had him pitching out of relief.
It’s uncertain how advanced the talks are between the Dodgers and Volquez, but with a series with the Padres looming this weekend, he could face his former team at Dodger Stadium.
UPDATE: 6:25 PM PST from Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com:
Source: #Dodgers agree with Volquez on major-league deal, pending physical, other details. #Padres pay all but pro-rated min of his $5.725M.
