Dodgers Rumors: Growing Speculation Dodgers Will Land Masahiro Tanaka

The GM Meetings are underway in Florida and while executives from teams talked to agents about their clients, the Dodgers have been surprisingly quiet.

Most of the talk surrounds what the Dodgers will do with their surplus of outfielders and while news broke that Brian Wilson might come back if he’s paid as a closer for the set-up role, they could be waiting for Japanese sensation Masahiro Tanaka to be posted. MLB and the Nippon Professional Baseball are waiting to strike an agreement, but according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times, the Dodgers are the favorites:

Teams are waiting for Masahiro Tanaka to become available, but there is a growing sense at the meetings of major league general managers that the Japanese right-hander will be a Dodger.

Tanaka went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA during the regular season, but major league executives were nervous when they saw that he threw 160 pitches in Game 6 of the Japan Series and then another 15 in relief in Game 7.

The Dodgers boasted one of baseball’s best pitching staffs last season and GM Ned Colletti said yesterday that he’d like to add one or two pitchers during the winter. Along with the Dodgers, the New York Yankees have been mentioned as another landing spot as a bidding war might break out between the two teams.

There’s also been talk that the Dodgers would like to land Tanaka and trade for Rays pitcher David Price, but the growing sentiment is that when he’s posted, Tanaka will be a Dodger.
