Dodgers Rumors: Hanley Ramirez To Receive Qualifying Offer

[new_royalslider id=”5″] With the conclusion of the World Series and 2014 season Wednesday, free agency officially began Thursday. The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the offseason with seven free agents, which increased to eight when they declined the team option on Chad Billingsley for 2015.

Their total number of free agents is also slightly skewed given that Josh Beckett announced his intentions to retire after the Dodgers were eliminated from the National League Division Series. One of the biggest question marks they face is what to do with Hanley Ramirez.

Unsurprisingly, the first step in addressing Ramirez’s free agency will likely be the Dodgers extending the qualifying offer to the shortstop, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports:

By offering Ramirez the one-year, $15.3 million deal, the Dodgers would receive a draft pick if Ramirez to sign with another team prior to June. Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers in 2012 and filled an immediate need at shortstop.

Although he began the 2013 season on the disabled list, Ramirez returned as one of the hottest hitters in baseball as the Dodgers completed their turnaround to win the NL West title. The bar was then set high for Ramirez in 2014, which proved to be a frustrating and injury-plagued season.

Ramirez battled various injuries but to his credit, or perhaps detriment, only landed on the disabled list once — with an oblique injury. The 30-year-old shortstop maintained his contractual status did not affect him throughout the year and got defensive over his decline in production at the plate.

The dip in Ramirez’s offensive output left the Dodgers in somewhat of a bind as his defensive range and glove aren’t among his strong suits. The Dodgers have until 2 p.m. PT Monday to present Ramirez with the qualifying offer.

    1. excuse me…..Turner is a bench player, not a superstar in the making, and if you knew anything about the Dodgers you would know that Corey Seager, Erisibel Arruebarenna are both SS with more and better defensive skills that JT..

      1. Ur funny… get his batting avg last season… and then get back to me… read my post… i said upcoming supetstar.. i watch the dodgers all the time dim wit…

        1. Seager has more batting skills than Turner, more power and is a hell of a lot younger….Turner will never be a upcoming superstar….the guy is a career sub…more valuable as a bench guy. and far from being a dim wit moron, know more about this game than you ever dreamed of.. Been watching this team a hell of a lot longer than you too…..

          1. Really???? Seager has more batting skills than jt??? Pls stop it… you lost all credibilty ryt ther… funny guy.. When did seager last bat????hmmmm.

          2. Seager is still playing in the AZ instructional league, so probably yesterday, and the only one losing credibility is you since you had no clue he was still playing…JT is 30 years old this month….Seager is 22….Turner played 109 games this year, the most he has ever played in the majors. Seager is the #1 prospect in the Dodger system, Turner was never the # 1 player in any system, if he was so great, why didn’t the Mets keep him…he is a utility player pure and simple…..don’t get full of yourself,,,,your lack of knowledge is showing big time.

          3. Ur too funny… define top prospect??? Can you see the future for top prospects?? Like you said.. seager is STILL playing in arizona… so you really think if he comes to play next year he will do better than what u call JUST U UTILITY GUY … thats been in the majors and trying to prove himself??? Which he has… batting 340. 7 HRS And 47rbis…???? Just this year… im looking for a couple of years winning the ship… not 4 or 5 years when seager is ready… pls sit down and listen to ur teacher.. oh wait.. class dismiss…

          4. Top prospect. The best player in the system, any moron knows that. Seager is playing to get experience, something he does not have yet. What he does have are serious skills. Turner is 30, far from being up and coming. He does not even have a regular position on the team. Uribe will be at third and Dee at 2nd. Turner lacks the range to be an everyday SS and his value comes from the fact that he plays multiple positions. That is why he was signed.,Not to play everyday, but to play when the regulars needed a day off or got injured. At this he excelled. He had a great year. Chances he repeats those numbers are pretty small…I think if he played every day, he might hit .270, maybe 10 HR’s.

      2. Hey dim wit…. jt is clutch… whils ur boys are just waiting ther turn.. what r u 12 years old???

        1. JT had a good year, but if you think the guy will come close to hitting .340 again, you are delusional. He did his job and played when the big guns were hurt…had a great year, but you can bet that it was not the norm…a total fluke…..

        2. and try calling me dim wit to my face shit brain, I would tear your stupid ass to pieces

  1. Sign them all, and for multiple years. Then get a Zen Master, like Phil Jackson, come in as a spiritual advisor to get the team focused.

  2. smart move..Han Ram will decline and they will get a draft choice…something they have not done in recent years….but this is a no brainer..
