Dodgers Rumors: Jimmy Rollins Trade Expected To Be Completed

Jimmy Rollins
It’s been quite a week and change for the Los Angeles Dodgers and it’s not quite over yet.

Since last week, the Dodgers traded Dee Gordon,Dan Haren and others, acquired Howie Kendrick and others, agreed to a deal to receive Jimmy Rollins, and also agreed to send Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres. The Rollins trade has yet to be finalized because it is expected to include a prospect from the Kemp deal.

Despite these complications, the trade is still expected to go through according to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly:

According to sources, the trade that will send Rollins to the Dodgers remains in place. However, the Phillies may have to get a player other than Eflin if the Kemp-to-San Diego trade falls through. Sources say the Phillies and Dodgers have discussed other players as part of the deal.

Originally, the Kemp deal was supposed to be done by Thursday, although complications could extend that further. Zach Eflin was heading to the Dodgers as a part of that trade and then head to Philadelphia along with Tom Windle for Rollins. With Hanley Ramirez gone, the Dodgers are counting on Rollins to fill in for at least a year until top prospect Corey Seager is ready to take over.

Rollins is a 15-year veteran that has spent his entire career in Philadelphia. He agreed to waive his no-trade clause in order to head to Los Angeles for the final year of his contract. Last year he hit .243 with 17 home runs, 55 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. He was just as strong on defense, accounting for four Defensive Runs Saved and committing just seven errors all season.

It looks like Rollins will be in blue next season, regardless of what happens with the Dodgers and Padres.

  1. Good. That is very good to know. I like the idea of Howie Kendrick and Jimmy Rollins up the middle. Way better than Hanley and Dee. Also, if the Padres and Dodgers trade falls through regarding Kemp I see the Dodgers hanging on to Kemp and doing a salary dump either with trade or release with Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford like the salary dump they just did with Brian Wilson. I do still think the Kemp trade to the Padres goes through.

    1. They won’t release Ethier and eat 50 mil.. But more than likely they will get someone to take him and eat a large portion of that

      1. Well I wouldn’t put anything past this front office. They already dumped 10 million on Dan Haren, 10 million on Brian Wilson, and if Kemp trade goes through then 32 million on Kemp. That’s 52 million dumped already and they already said they will either trade Brandon League or DFA him and his salary. I don’t really think dumping Crawford or Ethier’s contract is that big of a deal for them.
