Dodgers Rumors: Marlins Will Not Pursue Greinke

Don Mattingly gets a fairly brisk introduction to the Miami Marlins organization. One minute, he’s introduced to the fans in a press conference with a freshly-inked contract; the next, he finds out how fewer assets the Marlins are working with.

Mets’ Tejada: Utley “knows what he did”

On one hand, the Marlins already have Jose Fernandez – easily one of the least hittable pitchers in baseball. But to know heading into any free agency period your organization won’t even try for the highest-quality pitching is quite the wake up call given where Mattingly’s been the last few years.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, this is good news because by several reports, Greinke respected Mattingly and the concern was Miami might have an inside track if Mattingly could possibly convince Greinke to follow him. That definitely doesn’t sound like a possibility any longer.

It’s also always a good thing to have one fewer potential destination for such a pivotal piece as a pitcher of Greinke’s quality.
