Dodgers Rumors: Matt Kemp Three-Team Trade A Possibility

UPDATE (Dec. 11, 1:00 a.m. PT): At the end of a long day that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers complete a seven-player trade with the Miami Marlins followed by acquiring Howie Kendrick from the Los Angeles of Anaheim, they may be close to moving Matt Kemp according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

After quietly flying along through the first two days of the Winter Meetings, which included losing out on Jon Lester, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a flurry of activity on Wednesday.

It began with the reported trade for Jimmy Rollins and quickly escalated with reports of Dee Gordon and Dan Haren being sent to the Miami Marlins. While the Dodgers were adding to and subtracting from their infield, Matt Kemp’s name continued to be mentioned in trade talks.

As has long been suspected, the Dodgers and Padres are discussing a trade for the 2011 NL MVP runner-up and according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, their efforts may lead to a third team getting involved:

Hours later, Padres manager Bud Black told ESPN’s Jim Bowden the two teams were working towards a deal:

Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi said Tuesday night the notion that the Dodgers were close to sending Kemp to the Padres was ‘wishful thinking’ by the media. However, he also said they weren’t shopping Gordon, who of course was then traded Wednesday.

With respect to the Dodgers’ outfield, something is bound to give — they currently have six outfielders with Chris Heisey now part of the group. Given the amount of interest Kemp has drawn, he appears to be the most likely to go despite his being key to the Dodgers’ success last season.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and Zaidi have shown little hesitation in retooling the roster and the same level of aggression in their handling of a potential Kemp trade should be expected.

  1. just do it or shut up…..you trade Kemp and I have no respect for you morons

    1. Trade Kemp and I will change my team from the Dodgers to the hated Giants. How stupid is losing Kemp and now Dee? What the HELL ARE YOU THINKING? Move Eithier and Crawford not KEMP. Who is going to play second base now that you idiots traded Dee away. You pick up another “over the hill” in Rollins. YOU guys are doing a stellar job so far. Whats next? trade Vinny to Chicago for Harry Cari?

        1. your choice…but I will take Gordon’s excitement to the boredom that is Kendrick

  2. trading Kemp is stupid I have been a dodger fan since 1949 I might quit following baseball

  3. Giants’ fan here and I have to say that trading Kemp would go down as one of the biggest blunders ever — similar to the Giants trading away Orlando Cepeda many years ago. He finally starts getting healthy and then you get rid of him? So crazy. If the Giants could get him it would be a match made in heaven, but, oh well. ????

  4. trade kemp don’t be ridiculous hes just now getting back to his all star caliber, shit why not sell everybody and find a whole new team. bad idea trading dee to he was just coming into his own.i thought they were going younger instead they sign another 36 year old shortstop.well I guess 36 is younger than 39 lmao.stupid trades.were not going anywhere this year.

  5. I just don’t understand why they would consider trading away what appears to be a much needed bat in the lineup at this point. It’s not like there are a lot of other big run producing bats to be had out there right now. Was the front office really that impressed with our offense last year that we are going to trade away Matt Kemp as if we are not going to need the offense??? Maybe they know something we don’t about Kemp??? Or, they figure he had a great second half and they think they can get more now for him than they can in July if he has a poor first half again.

    1. Kemp is a high dollar high risk player. When he pays off, he really does, but thats a WHEN. TO move a bunch of his salary and pick up young talent is what they need to mold the team into a contender. Rollins is only there for a year until Seager is ready. Kendrick is a great consistent hitter and as defensively sound as any infielder in the Majors. Dodgers have a plan. Clearly what they had been working with wasnt right so now they are trying to change what they can to prepare themselves. Breath easy fellow Bleeders of Blue. Dodgers will be back.

  6. Love how everyone SEEM to know more about the baseball than the guys that actually have a proven track record….just sit back, trust and enjoy being a dodger fan…best time to be a dodger fan in over 20 years….

    1. really? and how do you qualify that statement? because you are happy? Does not mean the rest of Dodger fandom has to follow in your happy dance. I have been a fan for over 60 years of this team….and although I might not know more than they do, I do know if Kemp comes back and bites them on the ass during the season, most fans will really be pissed

  7. wasn’t until the Giants got rid of Barry Bonds they started winning World Series. It’s about chemistry the trust players have in each other to collectively go out and make something happen to sacrifice to win the only magic is within the hearts of the players
    GO DODGERS
