Dodgers Rumors: Matt Kemp’s Agent Believes Trade Could Come

With the winter meetings just days away in Florida, the Los Angeles Dodgers have a relatively long shopping list. Adding another starting pitcher, some middle relief, a third baseman and possibly trading an outfielder.

The last part, trading an outfielder, has been rampant during the off-season as countless stories about Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier getting traded have been written. Rumors about deals with the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers have been swirling around Kemp and that’s why his agent, Dave Stewart, is heading to Florida according to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com:

This is the first time we’ve experienced this. This is the first time we’ve heard it this much, and the first time we really believe something could happen.

Kemp is coming off two surgeries, one to his ankle and one to his shoulder while having more than six years and $130 million left on his contract. Still, of him and Ethier, teams look like they’re willing to gamble on him staying healthy and showing some of his 2011 form again.

Relegated to just 73 games, Kemp hit .270 with six home runs and 33 RBI and just when you thought he was rounding a corner, he’d get injured again. While many believe that the Dodgers will trade an outfielder, there are still those that believe that Ned Colletti and company would be wise and prudent to hang onto all four.

Selling low on Kemp doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Dodgers and while a trade for Ethier seems more likely, Stewart heading to the winter meetings makes this all the more real. Stay tuned.

  1. Why not trade Crawford, and keep Kemp and Ethier ?Crawford could go back home to the Rays, in a trade for David Price !
