Dodgers Rumors: Orioles Have Had Talks About Matt Kemp

[new_royalslider id=”6″] Just a day away from December and the Los Angeles Dodgers still have all of their outfielders that they ended the season with.

They have been working to lessen the logjam this winter and have made Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford and Matt Kemp available to teams. While Ethier would be the likeliest to be moved, Kemp has been the most rumored thus far because of his value. Kemp would bring back the biggest return, although it would be tough to replace his bat in the lineup especially after Hanley Ramirez signed with the Boston Red Sox.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, there’s a new team that has contacted the Dodgers for their former All-Star outfielder:

The Orioles won the AL East last season, but have two free agents in the outfield/lineup with Cruz and Markakis. It hasn’t been clear what the Dodgers are looking for in exchange for Kemp, but the Orioles do rank in the upper half in the league in terms of prospects.

Last year Kemp his .287 with 25 home runs and 87 RBIs in 150 games, moving from center field to left field and settling in right field. His strong second half of the season helped the Dodgers fend off the San Francisco Giants in the NL West for the division title. He added a game-winning home run in Game 2 of the NLDS to tie the series at one, but the Dodgers ultimately lost the series in four games.

While the Dodgers would prefer to keep Kemp in the lineup, Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi could decide to sell high if the return is worth it.

  1. Matt Kemp is like a little banged up Giancarlo Stanton at just 30 years of age – all this talk of “unloading” him is absurd. Why is this even a topic of discussion? Does he have bad breath? What?

  2. Everyone who knows anything about the Dodgers says the same thing. Kemp must stay. Unless they can pull off some crazy deal involving players like Matt Weiters or King Felix and not have to pay much of his salary, then only a moron would deal him. I doubt our brand spanking new GM is about to drop a bomb on his new fans unless it’s ridiculously fair or has huge potential that he can’t say no to. I would expect he’s entertaining offers for Kemp so he can gauge who really needs OF help and then pull the old car salesman’s “that model isn’t available anymore , but let me show you this one” trick, in order to get someone to give us anything more than a pack of gum for Ethier and / or Crawford. The only interesting possibility I’ve heard is the Padres Grandal. We need a serious upgrade at C and if they were willing to take Kemps salary (or most of it) and throw in Quentin, or some of those annually successful pitching prospects they magically always seem to have a supply of (temporarily), then maybe it would be worth keeping Ethier and calling up Pederson and platoon one of them with Van Slyke who is under rated I think. Other than that. Hell No..keep Kemp…lol
