Dodgers Rumors: Team Expected To Give Greinke 6 Years, $210 Million

As if there hasn’t been enough actual news today, the rumor mill seems to have one-upped everything and given us specifics as to what kind of contract it would take to re-sign Zack Greinke.

The good news, though, is that the Dodgers are expected to be the team to dish out all the money.

ICYMI: Dodgers, Zack Greinke And How Pitching Style Affects Negotiations

This, via Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News:

On one hand, the immediate reaction is probably one of glee, as it would mean the Dodgers’ greatest advantage from a year ago (Clayton Kershaw and Greinke as the league’s best one-two punch) will again help mask other issues on the roster.

On the other, though… Man. That’s a lot of money to be handing over to a 32 year-old pitcher. The contract wouldn’t hurt at all in the first couple years, but paying a 38-year-old $35 million-plus seems pretty risky.

This is just a rumor, but as specifics come out and reports surface that Greinke will probably sign “soon”, it’s hard not to take note of this kind of thing.

  1. How about use that 210 mil and get two stellar pitchers than one Grienke. I like ZG but man, that’s a whole lot of money to give to one player. Dodgers, look at the teams around you who are winning. Royals had strong pitching, stronger bullpen, and consistency in every position player (getting on base, good averages, etc). You can’t just have 2 great pitchers and ignore everything else. C’mon man.

  2. Right on. Never understood why you want to pay 30+million for 16/17 wins when you can get 12/15 wins for 12  million.we should know by now that 2 aces and no bullpen doest go very far except to win a very weak division. Z is great but don’t expect another year like this. Look at his record. Let’s fix the outfield, 2nd base, and #3,4, and 5.
